Okay so I obviousy can't spell pnemonia. I know enough to realize that I've grossly misspelled it but can't figure out the proper spelling no matter how much I think it through!
Anyway, so yesterday Sydney was miserable. I took all four little ones to playgroup, which was at the park and she sat there limp like a noodle all afternoon while the other three played. After playgroup, we went to the pizza hut buffet for a little lunch with my friend Ora and her children. Sydney slept the whole time. When we got home and I changed her diaper in order to lay her down for a nap, I discovered a big fat RASH all over her tummy. Now this posed an issue.
Is it a viral rash, a strep rash like Isaiah had, or a reaction to the 5 vaccinations she had the day prior.
I called the pediatrician's office and made an appointment for the next day (today) at 2:15 but as the afternoon progressed on and Sydney looked worse, I decided that I didn't want to wait that long. So when Albert got home we took her into urgent care. We waited forever and when we finally got in it was as I expected- the dr. didn't like how she looked. She was having some chest retractions though not major ones. The dr. who's name is Michelle (she always only gives her first name-we've seen her many times) said that the rash didn't really look like a typical strep rash, but given that Isaiah's didn't present typically, it is possible that Sydney's just didn't look typical either. Michelle swabbed her throat for strep even though babies don't usually have strep in thier mouths and sure enough it was negative. She ordered some chest x-rays of Syd since she was having the chest retractions and sure enough- both lungs had pnemonia. Oh joy.
Sydney got a shot of Rocephin and an RX for extra strength Augmentin and I have to take her back later today.
We decided to have her sleep in our room last night so we could be close to her. It took her an extra couple hours and an extra bottle to fall asleep but once she did, she slept through until 7:30 this morning. Unfortunately, Brice woke up coughing and hacking and sounded horrible as did Jackson. So we're trying to get them into the dr. this afternoon as well.
Lucky us. So far this morning Sydney has looked okay though she was only up for a short time before falling back asleep in her swing. I'll try to post an update when we get home from the pediatrician's office later today.
